Sometimes a simple object can conger up memories from when I was growing up. That is what this Doral Country Club, Miami, Florida ashtray did for me. The Doral Open was played on the Blue Monster Course from 1962-2006 a total of 45 seasons. Coincidentally that was a time of great growth of sports on television. I lived through it all and became a huge golf on TV fan.
The Doral Open meant spring was close. It was the first tournament in the eastern part of the country. After several tournaments on the west coast, the tour came east. Doral was the tune-up for The Masters and attracted a great field every year. Names like Billy Casper, Doug Sanders, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, and Raymond Floyd were just a few of the pros I grew up watching at Doral.
