This
is what I love about contemporary outsider art. Robert started coming
in the shop about 9 months ago and really didnt say much. He would come in
several times a week like he was on a schedule. One day he
brought in his first piece. He said he thought I might like to see it. A few days later he brought in his third finished piece. That was a painting or collage
about every two days. That is the kind of obsessiveness I look for in
outsider art and artists.
One day he left with some old cigar boxes and other objects to try
some 3-D art. The piece he made is huge and titled Odin. It is pictured below. Robert lives and works in the Landmark Building but has wandered around Wausau for a long time. He said he was
enrolled in the University of Wisconsin, Marathon County but suffered a traumatic brain injury in the late 1980's. He is an active alcoholic and addict. As of today, I havent seen him in about 5 weeks. Jail? Institution? I hope he is safe and warm.
