From the Department of Entertainment, Politically Incorrect Division. Sexist, naughty business cards for A & G Service, Andy Eccker, Proprietor. Everything Automotive, Wrecker Service. Highway 119, Blackhawk, Colorado.

This is the way things used to be. Garages, gas stations, taverns and barber shops were full of stuff like this. Postcards, business cards, calendars, napkins and place mats and nobody seemed to care much. These are graphically cool and available for purchase here

The household products of the N. K. Fairbanks Company in the 1880's-1890's. Marketing to the immigrant population.

The point of this post is to show you an example of a company marketing and advertising their products to the large, melting pot, of immigrants present at the turn of the last century. When we see bi-lingual or tri-lingual labels on products today, we may think it a recent phenomenon. Not so. Vast numbers of late 19th century immigrants were housekeepers, janitors and cleaning people of all sorts. The N.K. Fairbanks Co. made many different soaps and cleaning products. Gold Dust Twins being the most popular. Many of their customers were immigrants.

This old advertising booklet for the company is pretty cool. It shows all of the cleaning products Fairbanks made, but I discovered something on the inside of the back cover that made me think about the theme of this post. There are translations in German, Italian, French, Polish, Russian/Slovenian and Hebrew. While today the other languages on signs and labels maybe Spanish and Chinese marketing to immigrants is nothing new.

This is the last two pages, the translations are inside the back cover, right side in photo.

Here is the rest of the booklet. It is available here

Post Grape-Nuts Cereal advertising ephemera from 1949. MGM and Walter Lantz cartoon flip movies. Complete set of 12.

These little booklets were given away in boxes of Grape-Nuts in 1949. It is rare to find one. This is a complete set of 12 in nearly mint condition. From a collectibility standpoint they are desirable to product advertising people and comic book people. This is always good as it increases the chances an item will sell at a higher price.

These are tiny, about 1 1/2 x 2 and were reversible. Two movies per booklet. You simply used your thumb to flip through the pages and you will see a mini cartoon. The characters included Woody Woodpecker, Barney Bear, Droopy, Andy Panda and Tom and Jerry. This collection even includes the original inventory sheet. Amazing these would survive intact. They are available for purchase here

Old advertising signs on wood or metal are always popular. Beware, many reproductions in the market.

We just got this old realtor sign in today. People and businesses like bars, love decorating with old signs. This one is cool because it is black on bright yellow and it has a bird dog on it. Like many signs, both sides are painted but only one is able to be displayed. This is the "good" side of this one.  It is 18 x 24 and is available here
